In his career, the filmmaker has helmed several critically acclaimed and commercially successful films in both India as well as Hollywood. Many of you wouldn’t know that Kapur was born in 1945 in Lahore and came to India during the partition. The filmmaker never discussed his personal life publically. But the prevailing tension between Indian and Pakistan made Kapur emotional and he shared his own story of survival.
Taking to a Twitter, Shekhar recalled the terrifying time and narrated a chilling incident when he witnessed India’s partition in 1947. He also revealed that what his mother did to save him and his sister from being massacred.
Take a look at his tweet below:
I was born in Lahore. My mother escaped massacre by hiding me n my sister under her body in a train to india. Playing dead. Most people were killed. One million people died in Partition. 10 million refugees. On both sides. India n Pakistan were created of the blood of one people.

On February 27, Pakistan Air Force targeted military installations on the Indian side. Alert IAF gave a befitting reply and shot down one Pakistani fighter jet. Unfortunately, during counter operations, due to the technical snag, one fighter jet crashed and Pakistani forces arrested Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman. However, a day after, Pakistan PM Imran Khan announced that they will be releasing him as a gesture of peace. Kapur had then tweeted that he is looking forward to welcoming Abhinandan.
#WingCdrAbhinanadan You have become a beacon of courage patriotism and dignity. And also a beacon of hope. We look forward to welcome you home soon, Sir 🙏

Coming back to Shekhar Kapur, on March 4, 2018, the director had shared his family photo on Twitter.
Last pic of our whole family together. I was 18. Left for London that night. Since then we have all lead our own lives away from home. Only to come together under the same roof for our parents death. What forces in modern India tear us apart yet a love that binds us together? pic.twitter.com/dr1EtCcPDK

We hope that better sense prevails between the two countries and the rising tension de-escalates at the earliest.
