Sanjay Dutt has never shied away and has always been open about his dark phase of drug addiction and rehabilitation. In fact, he was one of the first actors to admit that he was addicted to drugs. A long struggle and some horrifying incidents later, he finally made up his mind to quit this addiction. Last year, the actor had walked free from Pune’s Yerawada Jail after completing his prison term, following his conviction in the year 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case. Leaving his traumatic past behind, the actor is now gearing up for the release of his big screen comeback with his upcoming film ‘Bhoomi’. But, recently we came across a revelation that left us surprised and shocked, both at the same time. The actor who is now looking forward to start his new innings as a performer had once thought of quitting the film industry and he even didn’t feel like returning to India. Yes! You read that right.
This thought came to him at the age of 24 years when he was actually restarting his life after getting treated for his drug abuse. While speaking to host Simi Garewal in her celebrity talk show ‘Rendezvous with Simi Garewal’, the actor opened up about that phase, when after his treatment he decided to settled down in Austin, Texas. He said on the show, “Actually when I finished my treatment, I told dad that whatever little money I had in the bank, I wanted it transfer to America. I had met this guy in rehab, his name was Bill, very very rich man. I went to Austin, Texas with him and they have got this ranch, so he and me were getting into a partnership to raise long cattle and sell beef. And my father came and he says, ‘Son, I mean I can understand that you don’t want to come back but for my sake come back, for my respect, come back’.”
“No I didn’t (wanted to come back to India), I told Dad, I said that I give myself a year, if nothing happens then I am going back to Austin, Texas. And I had two months left and this guy Pappu Verma, he is a fight master, he came and said that I want to do a film with you. I said that you can’t do a film with me because in two months I am going. So he said I’ll complete it in two months. And I did it and I am stuck,” added the actor.
When Simi Garewal asked him the reason that why he didn’t want to come back to his house. Sanjay said, “I found that life was much better in America. I saw the beautiful openness, just raising cattle and on horseback and here I got stuck in this.”
Indeed, we are glad that Sanjay Dutt got stuck and never left the film industry, or else we wouldn’t have got our very own loved Baba.
