When Gauri’s family were scared of SRK’s religion
Shah Rukh Khan narrated this incident about how Gauri's relatives were pretty scared on the wedding day about his culture and religion. He said, "I remember, when their whole family, old fashioned people, I respect them all and respect their beliefs but at that time, in that old-fashioned reception, all of them were sitting there when I came in at 1:15, whispering "Hmmm.. He's a Muslim boy. Hmm.. Will he change the girl's name? Will she (Gauri) become a Muslim?"
When SRK pulled a prank on them by asking Gauri to wear ‘burkha’
Well, SRK was clearly in the mood to pull a fast one on her already scared relatives. So he quickly told Gauri at the time, "OK Gauri, put on your ‘burkha' and let's read the namaaz now." The whole family stared at us wondering if I had already changed her religion already. So I told them, "From now on she will wear a burkha all the time, she won't ever leave the house and her name will be changed to Ayesha and she will be like this." Haha!
SRK’s words of wisdom on religion and love
He clearly had a fun time doing what he did, but at the end of the day, here's what he rightly believes in. He said, "I had a lot of fun, but the lesson in all of this was that one should respect religion but it should not come in the way of love. But, it was a great wedding and it's still going on strong."
When SRK’s fears of Gauri bidding him goodbye were unleashed
When Farida Jalal asked SRK as to what would he do if one day Gauri decides to bid him goodbye and leave him. His worst fears were unleashed and he replied in a true filmy style by saying, "Not just one morning, she says it every morning. If she does something like that, which she shouldn't because I'm so henpecked but if she does, the I'll tear my clothes and stand on the streets and I think I'll sing that song ‘Oh Gori, Oh banke chori, kabhi mere gali aaya karo', I am sure she'll come back."
When SRK reasoned why he clicked pictures only with Gauri and not his heroines
"No, that's not the case. Actually, what happens in our film industry is that heroes take pictures with heroines and then marry them. Then the next week, they take picture with some other heroine and marry her. I did opposite. I got married first and now, I'm taking pictures. So, it's not that I don't like heroines, but since I'm already married, instead of going through this... getting married every week can be very tiring and it's hard to get dates for it. So I've decided, I will take pictures with the person, I'm married to." Hmm, smart huh!
When SRK’s culinary skills were discussed
"My cooking is very limited. I can boil water very well. That I am expert at. And the best thing about my boiling water is that people can drink it and bathe in it. So there are two advantages to it. On top of that, if you add an egg in it, I don’t know if it will get half boiled or fully cooked but I can make that too. And if you add tea leaves to it, I can make tea too. So, basically I'm a chef of many cuisines. My wife married me because I cook well." Now, that was in good jest!
Stardom! A term that changes even the humblest of souls overnight. There’s a very fine line between attaining insurmountable heights of stardom and losing it in the blink of an eye, especially if the person does not have wisdom enough to sustain it. However, superstar Shah Rukh Khan is an exception to the same. The star, who is also referred to as ‘Baadshah’ and ‘King Khan’ of Bollywood has ruled the hearts of millions across the world and is touted as one of the biggest stars of our country.

The man may have reached at the top of his game, but he has clearly not let the stardom go to his head as he still remains humble. And his love story with Gauri has been like a fairy tale, as one vividly recalls that the man tied the knot with a Hindu-Punjabi girl (Gauri) when he had just started working on the big screen in the year 1991. Well, in those times, the situation between Hindu-Muslim was all the more tense and we wonder how difficult it would have been for SRK-Gauri to marry.
So, we came across this really old interview where senior actress Farida Jalal interviewed SRK on her talk show and he narrated an interesting incident about how he asked Gauri to wear a burkha and change her name on their wedding day. Yes, this did happen, but all in jest.
So, here’s a detailed account of how it all transpired and how their love marriage sailed through easily:
