When Kareena Kapoor Khan advocated live-in relationships & revealed she married Saif Ali Khan as they “wanted to have children”

Bollywood actors Kareena Kapoor Khan and Saif Ali Khan have been married for 12 years now. The couple – who tied the knot on October 16, 2012, have since been blessed with two kids, Taimur Ali Khan and Jehangir (Jeh) Ali Khan. Despite being married for over a decade, and dating for a few years before that, the duo still shell out couple goals.

However, did you know they were in a live-in relationship before they tied the knot? Kareena has been candid about this aspect of her and Khan’s relationship and has spoken on record about it. Read on to know what she said.

Kareena Kapoor Khan on live-in relationship

 While interacting with the Times of India in 2012, Kareena Kapoor Khan openly advocated live-in. She said, “I had a live-in relationship with him and we were quite open about this fact. Many people want to hide their boyfriends in public. I didn’t. I have tried and tested the live-in relationship formula and now I can personally endorse it for modern Indian couples (laughs). And live-ins are a reality in modern India. I am a modern woman and I am glad I could live up to what I believe in.”

The ‘Jab We Met’ actress, during an interview with The Dirty Magazine in November 2023, revealed people these days get married for the sake of having kids. She said, “The reason you get married now is that you want to have a child, right? I mean today otherwise, you can just live together. We [Saif Ali Khan and I] lived together for five years, so when we took the next step, it was because we wanted to have children.”

Kareena married Saif in October 2012 and looked absolutely stunning in her Nawabi attire. Saif was previously married to Amrita Singh but they parted ways in 2004, after 13 years of marriage. They also have two kids – actress Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan. Kareena and Saif grew closer on the sets of ‘Tashan.’

Many Bollywood celebrities have been in live-in relationships before getting married. The idea of live-in is widely formulated and also has a positive response to it. Zeenat Aman recently advocated the idea of live-in relationships – however, she has been receiving severe backlash for the same. In the past, actress Neena Gupta also spoke in support of live-in relationships.
