Actor Rani Mukerji is one of the finest actors in Bollywood who has always proven her mettle as an actor with her strong and powerful choices of roles. However, it wasn’t a cakewalk for Rani when she entered Bollywood. Considering that every actress in B-Town should fit a checklist and unfortunately, the Black actor was not ticking off most of them.

As Rani is celebrating her birthday today, March 21, we thought of sharing a throwback fact. During the initial days of her career, Rani was heavily criticised for her husky voice, short height and dark complexion. Due to this, she thought she didn’t fit into the typical Bollywood heroine category. But the Mardaani actor shattered all the stereotypical norms and became one of the leading ladies in the late 90s and early 2000s.

In a report in Hindustan Times, Rani earlier told a publication, “I never thought I fit into the heroine category in the typical sense. I am actually the opposite of a heroine” adding, “I am quite short in height, my voice is not heroine-friendly, the complexion of my skin is wheatish.

Rani further stated, “I think when I started, I never believed I could be an actor” recalling, “I grew up watching Sridevi, Juhi, Madhuri and Rekha ji, who were these screen goddesses and I never imagined myself up there with them.”

Rani Mukerji recalled what Kamal Haasan had told her, “You can’t measure your success by the height of your physical standing, but by the heights of how much you can grow professionally.”

The Hitchki actor concluded, “So I sort of broke all those stereotypical conventions that an actress was put into in my initial days of Bollywood journey.

Meanwhile, Rani was last seen in Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway where she impressed everyone with her stellar performances.
