When Shakti Kapoor became a victim of ragging by Mithun Chakraborty

First meetings might not always be a sign of how a relationship would evolve to be. Sometimes people we don’t click with at first, might turn out to be one of the most important people in our lives. Something similar happened with Shakti Kapoor when he met Mithun Chakraborty.

Shakti and Mithun met for the first time during their time in Film and Television Institute of India (FTII). DD Urdu’s YouTube channel released a video recently which has Shakti recall that meeting. The actor shared that when he was travelling from Delhi to Mumbai, he met a man who was also going to FTII and they became friends. Since they were 3 days earlier than their joining date, Shakti accompanied his new friend at his sister’s wedding. The groom at the wedding was actually Vinod Khanna’s brother, Pramod Khanna.

At the wedding party, Shakti met many Bollywood celebrities, including Rakesh Roshan. The starry function made him feel like a star too. Rakesh and Pramod then dropped Shakti and his new friend at FTII a night before their course was to begin. There, at the hostel gate, they saw a dusky guy with solid build, wearing a dhoti with many holes.

This man came forward and touched Rakesh’s feet after seeing him. Shakti had a beer in his hand at that time, and he asked the man if he’d like to have one. However, this man rejected the offer saying it isn’t allowed in the university and then introduced himself as Mithun Chakraborty.

While this was just the starting, this incident continued as Mithun took Shakti to his hostel room after Rakesh and Pramod left. There, Mithun and some other seniors ragged Shakti and even cut his hair. They then took him to the pool, asking him to do laps. Shakti started crying after 2 laps as he was exhausted and wanted to go back home. He had even given up on the idea of becoming an actor.

But then, it was Mithun only who came to be his saviour. He stopped the seniors from going further, and also told Shakti to not disrespect the seniors again. Being a good guy, he even took Shakti back to his room and locked it so that no one would know he was there.

While the starting between these two legends was a bit rocky, they went on to do many films together professionally. From Gunda, Dance Dance to Mard and many more, the duo went on to work together on a number of films which range in double digits.
