When Smita Patil felt uncomfortable during an intimate scene with Amitabh Bachchan in Namak Halal

Veteran late star Smita Patil was one of her era’s iconic and powerful actresses. Smita was known for her powerful and strong performances in movies like Bazaar, Earth, Aakrosh. But she became the talk of the town when she starred in Amitabh Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor starrer Namak Halal. Breaking the image of portraying serious roles in her career, Smita was seen playing the steamiest scene with none other than Big B in Namak Halal which made her regret later. And the steamy was nothing but ‘Aaj Rapat Jaye’ song.

The iconic song ‘Aaj Rapat Jaye’ from Namak Halal was one of the hot songs of the era. From Amitabh and Smita’s chemistry to the quirky rain song, everything about the song was a hit among the audience. But did you know the late actor Smita Patil felt uncomfortable and cried all night after doing a steamy song with Amitabh ji. According to a report in Dainik Bhaskar, after shooting the scene, Smita reached home and cried fiercely.

However, when the Piku actor came to know about this, he explained to Smita that she should not be disturbed by this act as it was the demand of the script and the song. After a lot of persuasion from Big B, Smita Patil agreed to come back to the sets to shoot but a lot of regret doing the movie. Smita was finally able to give her best in that number.

Big B once himself retold this story in parts in one of his earlier blog entries. “‘Namak Halal’ celebrates 34 years…with the exceptional Smita Patil, who was so uncomfortable during the shooting of the entire film because she just could not understand why she was asked to do what she was asked to do in the film. But she did it with a lot of personal persuasions from me and it came out fine. She was gentle and frail but stronger than anything you could ever encounter in a woman…truly a gift we lost we never should have,” the Bollywood superstar had penned in his blog at the time.

October 17 is Smita Patil’s birth anniversary. At the age of 31, Smita died from complications during childbirth after delivering their son, Prateik Babbar.
