Karan Johar made his directorial debut with ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ which had Shah Rukh Khan as the male lead. He then went on to direct ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’, ‘Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’ and ‘My Name Is Khan’, and each film had Shah Rukh Khan and other established actors. However, back in 2012, Karan did something that we didn’t expect from him. Well, he directed a film starring many newcomers.
the film in question is ‘Student Of The Year’ which starred newcomers as the leads. Apart from Rishi Kapoor, there was no big name from the industry in the movie. The film marked the debut of Sidharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan, and in these five years, these actors have made their mark in the industry. When ‘Student Of The Year’ had released, Alia Bhatt was just praised for her looks and not much for her acting talent as she had very less to do in the film. But now, after five years, she is the one who has proved her mettle in acting with various roles she has done. While Alia has proved her mettle, Varun has surely become the box office king with no flops in these five years. Talking about Sidharth, till now, the actor had a very bumpy ride at the box office, but slowly and steadily he too is trying his best to carve his niche in the industry.
P.S. May be because of this movie, Karan Johar is said to be the one who practices nepotism in the industry. 😉
‘Eat Sleep Bollywood Repeat’ is his life Mantra. Dance is his first love and Rani Mukerji is his eternal crush. He is someone who loves being himself, and as for the ones who don’t agree, his reply? “Talk to my hand!”
