Political relations
In 1984, Amitabh Bachchan took a break from acting and entered politics to support long-time family friend, Rajiv Gandhi. He won the Allahabad's seat of 8th Lok Sabha general election, but resigned after three years. The Bofors scandal created a rift between him and the Gandhi family, following which he sided with Samajwadi Party after Amar Singh helped him during his financial crisis. Later, when Amar Singh was expelled from the party, Jaya Bachchan chose to stay with SP. This created differences in their friendship.
Tiff with media
Many years ago Amitabh Bachchan had a tiff with a media house, all due to a disagreement which took place between all the superstars of Bollywood, including Amitabh Bachchan. According to reports, in the year 1975, Amitabh Bachchan who was very close to the Gandhi family, tried to influence in attempting to shut down Stardust. Censors got harsh on Stardust for carrying articles on Amitabh. Due to which other magazines too had to suffer. Stardust and all the film magazines formed an association against Bachchan and decided not to print anything about the actor in any of their publications. In 1989, Amitabh Bachchan found himself stranded in a legal battle and a Bofors scandal. His career took a downfall and Big B's PR team had to request media publications to write about him. When he approached Stardust he was given a clear advice to directly meet the MD of the publication. Then finally Amitabh Bachchan met Nari Hari and cleared all the past misconceptions and the 15-year-old war was over.
‘Boom’
Two things that made 'Boom' interesting were Amitabh Bachchan and the then newbie Katrina Kaif. The film was categorised as a B-grade film. The movie had no story line and Jackie Shroff's wife, who produced the movie, was in trouble as the movie failed miserably at the box office. The movie raised a lot of eyebrows towards Amitabh Bachchan and his performance in the film.
ABCL
When Amitabh Bachchan was hitting a rough patch in his career, he decided to start his own production house, which cost him till the last penny. The movies he made under his production house 'ABCL' didn’t do him any good. His company also hosted the Miss World contest which also led to the downfall. His company went bankrupt, he was embroiled in legal battles and had authorities hounding him for tax recovery.
‘Ajooba’
With success come failures too, but this one mistake could have been avoided. 'Ajooba' was a mistake with a big "M". Shashi Kapoor wanted to try his hands on directing a film and so came his directorial debut 'Ajooba' which was an adaptation of ‘One Thousand and One Nights’. One of the most expensive movies of that time had failed miserably at the box office, also in the process questioning Amitabh's talent.
Politics
Amitabh Bachchan contested the Lok Sabha elections from Allahabad in 1984 and won with a big margin. However, he resigned after three years. Later he stated that getting into politics was a huge mistake. “Venturing into politics was a mistake. I entered the field in the flow of emotions. But then I realised that emotions are very different from reality in the political arena. So I gave up. I have never thought of going back to politics since then,” he had said.
Nishabd!
The film created a lot of controversies as the plot did not go down well with the Indian audience. A story of an aged man falling in love with a teenage girl, 'Nishabd' definitely raised several eyebrows. The film did not work in Amitabh Bachchan's favour either. When Amitabh and Jiah shared an onscreen kiss, all hell broke loose as the media and controversies played a dirty trick.
Amitabh Bachchan has seen his fair share of ups and downs, be it in personal life or professional. The actor has been a major part of the film industry for more than four decades, 47 years to be precise. Recently the actor is back to headlines and we are worried because it is not in a positive way. New official documents have been leaked and they indicate that Amitabh Bachchan might be an alleged tax defaulter.
