The country is saddened with grief, with the passing of legendary singer, 'Golden king' Bappi Lahiri. Bappi Da passed away on Tuesday night. He breathed his last at the Criticare Hospital in Mumbai, as per the reports. Earlier this morning, the nation woke up to the shocking news of Bappi Da's demise. Also known as Disco King, Bappi Da died at 69. And with his demise, the nation has lost another gem today.

Bappi Lahiri was best known for his hit songs. The singing legend was popular for his 80s and 90s. And it was the 2020 movie Baaghi 3 that he sung a song for last. He sung the song Bhankas for the movie Baaghi 3. While Bappi Da was famous for his rocking music, the music maestro had something else that he was quite popular for. His fondness towards gold jewellery. The singing legend was always made a stunning appearance and was never seen without his gold chains.

In one of his interviews, the singing legend has shared the story behind his gold chains and jewellery. Bappi Lahiri had revealed that he was a big follower of Hollywood singer Elvis Presley. He had shared that he thought that if he became successful someday, he would build a different image of his. Bappi Da had even revealed that he wore gold not to show off but because Gold is lucky for him.
When Bappi Lahiri spoke about his gold chains
The late singer had said, "In Hollywood, Elvis Presley used to wear gold chains. I was a huge follower of Presley. I used to think, if I become successful someday, then I will build a different image of mine. By the grace of God, I could do it with gold. Earlier people used to think, it is just a way to show off. But it is not so. Gold is lucky for me."
Significance behind Bappi Lahiri’s gold chains
If reports are to be believed, Bappi Da owned gold worth Rs 17,67,451. Some reports also suggest that the Golden Man of Bollywood had gold worth 20 Lakh (estimated). Back in 2014, the singer owned 754 grams of gold jewellery, as per reports.

It was not an unknown fact that Bappi Lahiri had revealed how it was his mother had gifted him his first gold chain. Speaking with Speaking Tree, the singer had shared that his mother had given him a gold chain with a Hare Rama Hare Krishna locket in it. Bappi Lahiri had mentioned that when he got Zakhmi- his first blockbuster, his mother gifted him the gold Hare Rama Hare Krishna chain. He had shared, "When my mother put on the chain for me, she had told me it would be lucky for me. More gold chains followed with more box-office successes."

Bappi Lahiri had then mentioned how he has always received gold from his family. He had said, "After my mother, it was my wife Chitrani who gifted me another gold chain with a big Ganpati locket on it, on my birthday, in 1977." The late singer had revealed that his wife Chitrani had gifted him the gold chain with a big Ganpati locked following the successful box-office runs of Aapki Ki Khatir and Bambai Ae Aa Mera Dost.
The ‘Disco King’ Bappi Lahiri
The Disco King had spoken about the time he had made it to the Guinness Book Of World Records for his musical accomplishment. Back in1986, the singer had made it to the world records for recording more than 180 songs in 33 movies. He had shared that he has as many as seven chains. Bappi Lahiri had revealed that Lord Ganesha brought a big change into his life. He had said, "I have as many as seven chains and the Ganpati has brought a big change in my life. I am a big follower of Siddhivinayak and Lalbagcha Raja. One day I had a dream where I was asked to wear a Ganpati on my chest."

Bappi Lahiri even had a gold chain gifted by his daughter Reema. He had shared that she gifted a Maa Saraswati locket with the gold chain on his birthday. The singer had said, "No matter where I travel, some gold jewellery always travels with me. My gold jewellery is so heavy that I can't carry all of it with me abroad."
Why Bappi Lahiri wore gold jewellery
Talking about his attachment to the gold jewellery he wore, the singing legend had revealed that the chains and rings have religious significance for him. He had said, "I always want to carry God with me. I have never weighed my gold jewellery. On every chain, God is there, so I have never weighed any of my jewellery.” Bappi Lahiri is survived by his wife, Chitrani Lahiri and two children- a son, Bappa Lahiri, and a daughter, Rema Lahiri.
