Bollywood movies which were leaked online before it’s official release

‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’

Salman Khan's 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' wasn't leaked before on the same date as the official release day. However, it did not really affect the movie business as Salman has won millions of hearts with this movie and movie became a superhit blockbuster of all times. Bhai wasn't really upbeat about the leak.

‘Tera Kya Hoga Johnny’

Tera Kya Hoga Johnny: Sudhir Mishra’s 2008 film starring Neil Nitin Mukesh, Soha Ali Khan was supposed to be released in 2008 but was delayed. Tt was then set for an early 2010 release but in January 2010 it was further delayed because parts of the film were leaked online while still undergoing post-production work. Finally, the movie was released on Dec 31, 2010.

‘Paa’

Amitabh Bachchan's much appreciated 'Paa' directed by R.Balki was also leaked online on the day of its release. However, this did not affect the box office collection of the film.

‘Paanch’

Anurag Kashyap's movie 'Paanch' (2003) was based on the 1976-77 Joshi-Abhyankar serial murders. Unfortunately, the movie was never released in the theaters as the Censor board never gave it a green signal. Although, the movie got leaked online and Anurag never bothered to fight against it as it was stuck in the censor board for quite a while.

‘Manjhi – The Mountain Man’

Nawazuddin's much talked about film Manjhi – The Mountain Man was leaked online before the official release. Directed by Ketan Mehta and featuring Radhika Apte in the lead role. However, the film did well at the box office and the performance by Nawazuddin and Radhika was much appreciated.

‘Mohalla Assi’

Mohalla Assi, the movie was leaked online as the date of the actual film release was taking time due some legal procedures. The movie is Directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi and produced by Vinay Tiwari and has been is stuck in the court for quite a while as somebody from Delhi had brought a stay order on the film as it contained abusive language when he saw the promos of the film.

‘Udta Punjab’

Controversial film ‘Udta Punjab was leaked online, two days ahead of its scheduled release in theatres. However, the film’s team managed to remove it online on war footing from torrent sites. As per multiple online platforms which had snapshots from the leaked copy, one could say it was a copy of the film submitted to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) as it also featured some scenes which the censor board had objected to.

‘Sultan’

A pirated copy of Salman Khan‘s ‘Sultan’ was allegedly leaked online, just a day before its release. Confirming the news, Deep Shankar, a cyber crime expert told a leading daily, “The leak is confirmed. The copy of the movie is available on darknet and soon it will be available on Torrent”.

‘Great Grand Masti’

The Vivek Oberoi, Riteish Deshmukh, Aftab Shivdasani starrer was leaked online three weeks before its release. Therefore the makers had to prepone the release date from July 22 to July 15. Indra Kumar said, “It’s a big loss for us. This has happened for the first time when a film is leaked 17 days before its official release. It has killed our film. It’s a tough time for us. We are sad and upset.”

‘Kabali’

'Kabali' which was set to hit the screens on July 22 apparently got leaked through its censor copy. A source close to the production said that the concerned authorities have already been contacted to pull down the unauthorised links.
