The much awaited wedding
After years of persuading, they tied the knot.
It took Pataudi long to convince Sharmila
Decades ago, for a Hindu girl who had the distinction of belonging to Rabindranath Tagore's family, it wasn't easy to be hitched to a Muslim man. Even her family wasn't in favour of this relationship.
Sharmila was at the peak of her career
However, Sharmila was at the peak of her career at that time. Satyajit Roy's 'Apur Sansar' was a breakthrough for her, post which she never looked back. She was that courageous woman who became India's first to actress to appear on the big screen wearing a bikini. Given the situation, committing to a marriage was not a decision she could take easily and quickly.
Pataudi was repeatedly rejected by Sharmila
For next four years, Pataudi kept trying to convince Sharmila of his love. From proposals to red roses, he left no stone unturned to impress his lady love. Guess what? An almost exhausted Pataudi even gifted Sharmila a refrigerator. However, even that didn't melt her heart at once. As an added worry, his mother quite didn't like the idea of her son marrying a woman who was famed to be a sensuous actress.
They first met in Delhi through common friends
It was 1965. Sharmila Tagore was in Delhi for a shoot. Nawab Pataudi met her through their mutual friends and was immediately in love with the beauty. However, little did he know that hard luck awaited him.
The love story of Bollywood’s eternal beauty queen Sharmila Tagore and late cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi (popularly known as Tiger Pataudi) is one the most celebrated romantic sagas. Back in the time when an inter-religion marriage was subject to so much criticism, this couple indeed set an example.

Behind every beautiful love story, there are two people who didn’t give up on love. From two strangers who met all unplanned to a couple who lived happily ever after, both Pataudi and Sharmila Tagore have stood by these words.
They have spent over 40 years together until the former cricketer took his last breath in 2011. Blessed with two talented children Saif Ali Khan and Soha Ali Khan, we are sure even the last moment of togetherness was filled with completeness.
