Bhanu Athaiya
In 1982, the first Indian who won the Academy Awards (Oscars) was Bhanu Athaiya. She won the Oscar for Best Costume Design for her work in the Ben Kingsley starrer Gandhi. Jon Mollo also shared the award with her.
Gulzar

One of the greatest directors Indian cinema have ever seen, Satyajit Ray received a Lifetime Achievement Award(1992). His passion and devotion towards movies are a known fact across the globe. Although, he could not attend the ceremony to accept the award due to his illness and he was in the hospital during that time. Satyajit Ray gave his award acceptance speed through a live video feed from the hospital bed.
Shekhar Kapur
Shekhar Kapur's 1998 film 'Elizabeth' based on the early years of the reign of Queen Elizabeth I earned seven Oscar nominations including Best Picture and Best Actress for Cate Blanchett in the titular role and won for Best Makeup. The sequel 'Elizabeth: The Golden Age' covering the Queen's later reign was released nine years later and repeated the nomination for Blanchett and also earned a statuette for Best Costume Design.
Priyanka Chopra
Priyanka Chopra has been selected as a presenter at the upcoming 88th Academy Awards. She will be walking the red carpet with the who’s who of Hollywood at the Oscars this year.
