Jadoo-Koi Mil Gaya
Jadoo from Koi Mil gaya is our favourite alien friend. A friendly alien with a caring heart who uses his power to uplift a boy with limited mental and physical capacity, teaches us how individuals with special needs should be treated by us. A character so full of love that we actually start feeling bad when he goes back the space (in the film of course). Wish he left the same spirit for us!
Salman Khan-Bajrangi Bhaijan
Pawan Kumar Chaturvedi from Bajrangi Bhaijan played by Salman Khan shows us what we all should be, and what none of us are. A man from India who risks his life and saves a little Pakistani girl who’s lost in India, to us, is a grater hero than anyone else. Newspaper headlines would look different if we had more of them in reality.
Aamir Khan-Taare Zameen Par
This is the much appreciated character of an idealist teacher from the film Taare Zameen Par, played by Aamir Khan. Engaging children into a rat race which only gets more fearful everyday and suppresses a child’s own dreams, hobbies, aspirations is a dangerous trend that we are encouraging. When it comes to treating children with special needs, the system is even more insensitive. Teachers like “Nikumbh Sir” are like some fresh air to the suffocating room who let children learn, play, dream, live and grow. They’d encourage a child to grow as a human being with strong determination, moral values and and a sensitive heart rather than a mere money machine. We wish parents and teachers are inspired from this character.
Aamir Khan-PK
Pk from the film PK, played by Aamir Khan, stole our hearts. How badly we need such straightforward uncomplicated honest fearless individuals in this messy world, who would question everything that seems baseless and won’t simply let it go by ignoring! From religious tantrums to slaughter political conflicts, the burden is too much to carry. These are the ones who initiate and bring the change we much need.
Madhuri Dixit-Aaja Nachle
Dia (Madhuri Dixit) of Aaja Nachle, who is a settled dancer in the US, rushes back to India on coming to know that the city’s once famous and now deserted dance theatre Ajanta where she had started learning classical dance, is being demolished and a shopping mall will be built at its place. This has become a common sight in cities and all we can do is to be burnt with futile anger. With all those epitomes of heritage and history unbroken, our cities wood probably look more elegant; if Diya was real!
Sridevi-English Hinglish
A middle class Indian house wife who is confined to her world of bed rooms and kitchen, knows not how to speak English, made fun of by husband and children. Sounds familiar? Shashi (Sridevi) of English Vinglish does exactly most of our women don’t; that is to unveil her true potential by working hard. She finally learns to speak English confidently, zipping the mouths of people who so far were “embarrassed” with her weak English. If every woman who’s underestimated and made to feel bad about herself did the same, empowerment would be on wheels by now.
Have you ever wondered why you love films? It’s because they give you a glimpse of how you want the world to be. They make you fall in love hopelessly with the ideas of life, love, relationships, attachments, commitments, humane bondings..and what not! It often happens to us that a fictitious character from a film starts seeming too real, too close; and how we wish it turned real! We found 6 Bollywood characters that we wish were true.
