Ranbir Kapoor in Bombay Velvet
A star with the boy-next-door look, Ranbir Kapoor, donned the hat of an aggressive mobster for his film 'Bombay Velvet.' The movie helmed by Anurag Kashyap was a super flop at the box-office, but it was Ranbir's character which stood out the most in the film. Set in the backdrop of 90's era, Ranbir played the role of Johny Balraj, a son of a prostitute who wanted to be rich by any means possible. His role was completely different from that of his non-violent characters like that in 'Barfi.'In an interview, he himself accepted that his character of Johny Balraj was the most intense one till date. He said, "It is my most angry role, it is very intense. I have never even slapped in my earlier movies. The intensity is there because of the place that Johnny comes from. His aggression is about survival. It is not out of choice."
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Jazbaa
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan made a smashing comeback to Bollywood with film 'Jazbaa.' After the birth of her baby daughter Aaradhya, Aishwarya took some time to resume her acting career but when she did it she was absolutely breathtaking. 'Jazbaa' was an all out Aishwarya Rai film as she was connected with her character. The story was about a mother, who's daughter gets kidnapped by a criminal. The story is about her struggle to save her daughter by fighting the case on behalf of that criminal. Her power-packed performance was commendable and probably her motherhood is what helped her to portray such a strong character with utmost sincerity. Only a mother can understand what it feels like to have her daughter kidnapped, right? In an interview, she had said, "Actually having become a mother was perfect for a script like this because there is a lot of truth to the nuancing you can bring in."
Akshay Kumar in Baby
Known for his out of the box comedy, Akshay Kumar gave a jaw-droppingly intense performance in this year's hit film 'Baby.' It's not the first time that we saw Akshay donning the hat of the saviour of society. Being an army officer or undercover agent is nothing new to Akshay, but his performance in 'Baby' was truly commendable. 'Baby' was a hit solely because of Akki's intense performance filled with high-voltage action. His dialogue delivery is his USP, indeed!
Ajay Devgn in Drishyam
After being at his comical best in 'Golmaal' series, Ajay Devgn presented an exceptional film 'Drishyam.' Being a critically acclaimed film, Ajay Devgn played a role of a father who does everything possible in this world to save his family from the clutches of law. It was one of the best performances of Ajay Devgn till date and he did get appreciated for it. It's only Ajay who could carry off this potent character of a quintessential father.
Anushka Sharma in NH10
Anushka Sharma's first production 'NH 10' suffered many highs and lows in the making. From the casting issues to the tiff with Censor Board, Anushka's NH 10 had a tough journey. But, the time it made it to the theatres, it proved that all the pain and efforts were worth it. A woman's fight for survival has been a topic of discussion since ages but, the way Anushka portrayed it was something mind blowing. Her performance literally kept us at the edge of the seat with heart racing to know what's going to happen next. The violent scenes in the film are horrifying but, instead, of a hero, it's a simple girl played by Anushka fiercely fighting for her own survival. Hats off to Anushka for giving such a noteworthy performance in 'NH 10.'
Ranveer Singh in Bajirao Mastani
It's not easy to play a warrior especially if it is Peshwa Bajirao, who's heroism would always glorify the ancient history of India. Ranveer Singh was bang on as Peshwa Bajirao I. We must say, Sanjay Leela Bhansali is truly a visionary who could foresee Ranveer's enthralling performance as Peshwa Bajirao. The intensity and the energy level with which Ranveer portrayed his character in this film never gave our mind a chance to wander anywhere else while he was showing off his warrior skills on-screen.
Varun Dhawan in Badlapur
The film which proved that Varun Dhawan is a versatile actor is this year's 'Badlapur.' With his never seen before avatar, Varun Dhawan won millions of hearts with his powerful performance in 'Badlapur.' The hot-blooded show put forth by Varun in this film completely washed off his chocolate boy image. There's nothing that this boy can't achieve and it's a sign of being a true star. Varun nailed it with his performance in 'Badlapur.' The aggression, the feeling of vengeance and his contest for the justice for his family kept us hooked to the film. Varun could rightly communicate the emotions of a an who has lost his loved one for no reason.
