Both 'Sanam Re' and 'Fitoor' featured two fresh on-screen couples. However, the audience probably didn't find the pair of Aditya Roy Kapur & Katrina Kaif credible enough as a couple while Pulkit Samrat and Yami Gautam achieved that credibility.

Whether you accept it or not, pre-release buzz does influence a film's box office performance. While Abhishek Kapoor has given us successful films like 'Rock On; & 'Kai Po Che', Divya Khosla Kumar's directorial debut 'Yaariyan' was rather an youth-oriented entertaining film. Looks like the viewers banked upon Divya for some entertaining stuff than Abhishek for a thought-provoking film.

'Fitoor' is an adaptation of Charles Dickens's classic novel. The viewers probably took it to be an exact cinematic execution and said 'No' to it as a Valentine's Day watch, assuming a sad ending. After all, who wants to see a tragic love story on Valentine's Day? 'Sanam Re' was known to be an intense love story. However, quite an irony! 'Sanam Re' turned out to end on a tragic note as well.
This Valentine’s Day, choosing between Abhishek Kapoor’s ‘Fitoor’ and Divya Khosla Kumar’s ‘Sanam Re’ was quite a task for viewers. New chemistries, beautiful songs, stunning locations in both films; life at times throws such difficult choices on you! However, after both the films’ first weekend collections, ‘Sanam Re’ (17.05 Cr) has outranked ‘Fitoor’ (13.11 Cr).
