Bollywood actors like Nana Patekar, Akshay Kumar, Aamir Khan have come out in support of farmers of Maharashtra who are reeling under the effects of drought. The state of Maharashtra is facing drought as out of 75 dams, 54 have been declared dry by the government. Worst hit are the farmers and their families. To tackle the situation ‘Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyaan’ has been launched by the government. This is to conserve the water through the technique of water harvesting.
Water conservation will be done by building ponds and other water harvesting techniques. Actor Akshay Kumar has stepped forward in support of the water harvesting initiative. The Khiladi has donated Rs 50 lakh towards it. Earlier too the ‘Airlift’ actor had donated around Rs 90 lakh to help support the 180 families of farmers who had committed suicide, whose plight was brought to the notice of the actor by a senior cop.
Not only Akshay Kumar, Nana Patekar too had donated a major portion of his earnings to the farmers and their families. Now Aamir Khan who had launched the ‘Satyamev Jayate Water Cup’ too has stepped forward and adopted two drought-hit villages.
Maharashtra’s Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, thanked the actors for their generous contribution. The ‘Singh is Bliing’ actor refrains from talking about his generosity as he finds it too embarrassing.
We do hope that not only celebrities but the citizens too take up an initiative and conserve water to tide through these trying times.
