The Telangana High Court has granted interim bail to actor Allu Arjun in the Pushpa 2 stampede case. The decision came on Friday evening, providing relief to the actor after he was arrested earlier in the day at his home by Hyderabad Police in connection with the death of a fan at the film’s premiere.
Allu Arjun granted interim bail in stampede case
Following his arrest, the actor once again approached the High Court, seeking to have the FIR against him quashed. The court indicated it would grant Allu Arjun interim bail, with the judge stating, “We will grant interim bail for a certain period and allow them to avail themselves of appropriate remedies in the meantime,” as reported by Bar and Bench.
The unfortunate incident unfolded on December 4, when a large crowd of fans gathered at Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad to catch a glimpse of Allu Arjun during the premiere of Pushpa 2: The Rule. A stampede-like situation ensued, resulting in the tragic death of a woman, while her son is currently recovering in a hospital.
Police registered a case against Allu Arjun, his security team, and the theatre management at the Chikkadpally police station under sections 105 and 118(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), based on a complaint from the victim’s family.
On Wednesday, Arjun submitted a plea in the High Court to quash the FIR and requested a stay on all further proceedings, including any arrests, while his petition is pending.
In a compassionate gesture, the actor previously announced financial assistance of ₹25 lakh for the family of the deceased woman. There was a notable development in the case when the victim’s husband expressed his intention to withdraw the complaint, stating he did not hold the actor responsible for the incident. This tragic event at Sandhya Theatre has highlighted the risks associated with large public gatherings, especially during high-profile events.
