nayanthara, chandramukhi makers, clarification,

Sivaji Productions, makers of Chandramukhi has addressed recent rumours regarding the alleged demand of ₹5 crores for the use of footage for the biopic of Nayanthara. The production house confirmed that Nayanthara obtained a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the footage featured in her documentary, Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale, which is available on Netflix.

Chandramukhi makers address rumours on Nayanthara’s documentary

The drama unfolded after actor Dhanush issued a notice to Nayanthara, her husband Vignesh Shivan, and Netflix India, demanding ₹10 crore for the unauthorized use of footage from his 2015 production, Naanum Rowdy Dhaan. In the wake of this, it was reported that Sivaji Productions, makers of Chandramukhi had also sought ₹5 crore from Nayanthara for the same reason. This prompted the production house to clarify the situation.

Tamil film industry tracker Manobala Vijayabalan shared the NOC on his X handle. The certificate states, “This is to certify that Sivaji Productions has no objection to the use of the following footage in the Netflix documentary Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale“. She outlined specific time stamps from Chandramukhi.

The document further confirms that Rowdy Pictures is co-owned by Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan. It has been granted permission to use, reproduce, distribute, and sub-license the footage exclusively for the documentary. Additionally, it states that Sivaji Productions will hold Rowdy Pictures. Its affiliates harmless from any claims or disputes related to the authorized use of the footage.

Rowdy Pictures produced the documentary, which premiered on Netflix India in November 2023. Importantly, the NOC did not mention any financial arrangements. It effectively dispelled claims that Sivaji Productions demanded ₹5 crore for the footage.
