Here’s why Geeta Phogat refused to accept a ‘Shaadi Ka Joda’ from Aamir Khan

Actor Aamir Khan who is playing the role of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat in his forthcoming wrestling drama ‘Dangal’ has bonded with the family of Mahavir Singh Phogat himself. So, when he discovered that real life Geeta Phogat was getting married yesterday, he chose to gift her a Shaadi Ka Joda. But, the bride politely refused this gift by Aamir Khan. She had her reasons and that too valid ones.

According to Hindu customs, the ‘shaadi ka joda’ is given to the bride by her Mama and as her Mama (Uncle) had already gifted her a one, she could not accept another one and had to decline Aamir Khan’s special gift. Of course, he too understood it and gifted some other things to her and her family members.

According to a source close to the actor, “Aamir is extremely close to Mahavir’s family. He got attached to Geeta and Babita over the last two years. And so, Aamir had bought a very emotional gift for Geeta. He wanted to gift Geeta her Shaadi ka joda (wedding outfit). A Shaadi Ka Joda is something a father or a mama usually gives to her daughter and Aamir wanted to do that for Geeta. In fact, Aamir was personally looking into the gifts being given to Mahavir Phogat’s family and the groom. He was keen to be a part of the celebrations as a family member. Aamir attended the wedding from the girls side. He has been constantly in touch with Mahavir Singh Phogat and looked into all the wedding preparations and made sure everything is in place.”

The movie ‘Dangal’ is all set to release on December 23, 2016.
