Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar passed away on February 6 morning at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital. She was 92. Almost a month back, the veteran singer was admitted to the hospital after she tested positive for Covid-19 and pneumonia. There were signs of improvement in her health. But on February 5, her condition deteriorated and she was back on ventilator support. Lata ji’s death has created a void in the entire nation. Tributes are pouring in from all across the nation for the singer. Music composer Ilaiyaraaja took to social media to pay his last respects to the Nightingale of India. He shared a video where he was seen expressing his grief over Lata Mangeshkar’s death and shared a few throwback pictures of both from one of the recording sessions.
In his tweet, Ilaiyaraaja wrote that he is ‘heartbroken’ but blessed to have known Lata Mangeshkar.
He shared a video and tweeted, “Heartbroken, but blessed to have known her & for having worked with her.. loved this incredible voice & soul… Lataji holds a place in our hearts that is irreplaceable. That’s how profoundly she has impacted our lives with her voice.” He also added, “May she rest in peace & light up the heavens with her soulful voice (sic).”
In the video, Ilaiyaraaja said, “In the history of Indian film music, for the last six-seven decades, Lata ji mesmerised the world with her divine voice. I am deeply saddened by her death, which has left a big void in me. I don’t know how I will come out of this. Her demise is going to be a big loss not only for the music industry, but also for the whole world.”
Lata Mangeshkar was cremated with full state honours at the Shivaji Park Ground in Mumbai at 6.30 pm.
