Is Ponniyin Selvan the Tamil Game of Thrones? Mani Ratnam gives an EPIC reply

Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan is one of the most anticipated movies. It is all set to release in theatres on September 30. The magnum opus stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi and Trisha among others in pivotal roles. The team is busy promoting the movie and the cast and the director are leaving no stone unturned to make it a huge success. Well, some people are comparing Ponniyin Selvan 1 to fantasy drama series Game of Thrones and calling it ‘Tamil Game of Thrones’. When Mani Ratnam was asked about it, he indeed gave a hilarious response.

In an interview with Film Companion, the Guru director refused to accept that Ponniyin Selvan 1 is the Tamil version of GOT. He said, “I think Game of Thrones is the English version of Ponniyin Selvan – I.”

The historical drama is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s 1955 novel Ponniyin Selvan. It is produced under the banners, Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions. PS-1 is a Tamil drama that will also release in Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. Music is given by AR Rahman.

The movie also stars Sobhita Dhulipala, Aishwarya Lekshmi, R Sarathkumar, Prabhu, Prakash Raj, and R Parthiban. Chiyaan Vikram is playing the role of Aditya Karikalan, the crown prince of the Chozha empire. Aishwarya is playing Queen Nandini. This is in a double role. Trisha Krishnan will be seen as princess Kundavai Devi. While Jayam Ravi plays Aditya and Kundavai’s younger brother Arunmozhi Varman. Ratnam has already completed the shoot of part two as well.
