Jimmy Sheirgill’s upcoming film ‘Shorgul’, which touches upon sensitive issues such as Muzaffarnagar, Godhra and post-Babri Masjid demolition riots, has received clearance from the censor board and got a U/A certificate.
“We are happy that censor board gave us a U/A certificate and this can reach the masses,” Samira Kelkar, CEO 24FPS Films Production, said in a statement.
The film, set in Uttar Pradesh and bringing to life political scams of controversial high-profile dignitaries that rocked the nation, is directed by Jitendra Tiwari and Prashant V Singh, and stars Jimmy Sheirgill, Hiten Tejwani, Eijaz Khan, Ashutosh Rana and Sanjay Suri.
Jimmy plays a character based on BJP lawmaker Sangeet Som, Sanjay’s character is based on Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and Narendra Jha’s character is based on State Minister Azam Khan, and interestingly, the characters also have almost the same names – with a slight alteration – being called Ranjit Soam, Mithilesh Yadav, and Aalim Khan.
The film is slated to hit the screen on June 24. The first motion poster of the movie was released on Monday.
