Karthi confirms his role in Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan; deets inside

Director Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan has been in news since its announcement. The shoot is currently going on in Orchha, Madhya Pradesh. The movie stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Chiyaan Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha and Prakash Raj. Actor Karthi has been shooting for the magnum opus for the past two years. Yesterday (August 25), the actor confirmed that he is playing the role of Vandhiyathevan. Yesterday, his co-star Jayam Ravi wrapped his part for the film and took to Twitter to share the news with his fans.

He tweeted, “It’s a wrap for not one but two movies. Heavy heart but onto other new beginnings with special blessings from my mother today. Happy birthday Ma”. Replying to his tweet in a hilarious way, Karthi revealed his role in Ponniyin Selvan. Karthi is playing Vandhiyathevan who is a trusted aide and friend of Adithya Karikalan (played by Chiyaan Vikram). Jayam Ravi is playing Arulmozhi Varman, who is also fondly called Ponniyin Selvan.

Ponniyin Selvan is one of the most-anticipated movies. Recently, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s look from the film got leaked. In the pic, she was in a bright pink silk saree with heavy jewellery. She looked royal in that get-up. The actress will be seen playing two roles – Nandini and Mandakini Devi.

Ponniyin Selvan is based on the novel of the same name. The novel was written by Kalki Krishnamoorthy. The action-drama film is slated to release next year.
