West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday congratulated megastar Amitabh Bachchan on winning the Best Actor award for ‘Piku’, and filmmaker Goutam Ghose for bagging the Best Bengali Film honour for ‘Sankhachil’ at the 63rd National Film Awards.
“Congratulations, Amitabh Bachchan for winning National Awards for Best Actor. Congrats all other well-deserved winners. Keep making India proud,” Banerjee wrote on Twitter on Monday.
Amitabh, 73, has been lauded for his “delectable and delightful portrayal” of an ageing man in ‘Piku’.
Directed by Shoojit Sircar, ‘Piku’ is an endearing father-daughter tale, which also stars Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan, with Moushumi Chatterjee and Jishu Sengupta portraying supporting roles.
For ‘Sankhachil’, Banerjee tweeted: “Happy that Shankhachil, a joint production of West Bengal & Bangladesh, won Best Bengali Film. Congratulations Gautam Ghose.”
The film starts actor Prosenjit Chatterjee in the lead.
