Mmmmm Sound Of Pain: Kerala’s tribal language film joins the Oscar race

The race for Oscar 2021 has begun. On Friday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced a list of 366 films that are eligible for the Oscars race. And guess what? Kerala’s tribal language film, ‘Mmmmm Sound Of Pain’ has made it to the coveted list.

According to the IANS report, Mmmmm Sound Of Pain will now officially contend for Oscar nominations. The voting for the films will start on March 5, while the official nominations will be announced on March 15.

Mmmmm Sound Of Pain revolves around the story of a tribal person from the Kurumba tribe who makes his living by collecting honey. The film stars former India footballer I.M. Vijayan in the lead role. The film is a commentary on irresponsible human activities leading to environmental changes.

With the film making to the list of 366 films that are eligible for the Oscars race, the makers of Mmmmm Sound Of Pain are elated. Producer Sohan Roy said it’s a proud moment for the entire team.

Helmed by Vijeesh Mani, the film’s music is composed by Jubair Muhammad. Grammy award-winning American musician Edon Molla and Indian folk singer Nanjamma have written lyrics and sung for this tribal language film.

Meanwhile, Suriya starrer Soorarai Pottru has also entered the Oscar race in the Best Actor and Best Film categories.
