In a recent interview, actor Naga Chaitanya addressed the ongoing debate around nepotism in the film industry, expressing that he finds the topic somewhat perplexing. On a podcast, he shared his perspective, stating that he sees the issue as “black and white” with little room for ambiguity.
Naga Chaitanya calls nepotism a black & white
When questioned on the Raw Talks with VK podcast, particularly given his lineage—his father is Nagarjuna and his grandfather is Akkineni Nageswara Rao. Naga Chaitanya reflected on the nature of family support in pursuing a career in acting and nepotism, “If your child wants to work in the same field, would you discourage them? It’s as simple as that, so I don’t understand the debate. Of course, I believe everyone should be treated equally, but it’s not my fault or my father’s fault that I wanted to be an actor. He won’t discourage me just because it would be nepotism.”
Chaitanya further elaborated that once someone enters the film industry, the playing field becomes equal. He noted, “On a serious note though, come Friday, if my film isn’t good but a newcomer’s is, the audience will watch that instead. Stars have fallen overnight; it has happened before. Coming from a film family, I had opportunities on a platter, no doubt. But once we’re on the playing field, we’re all equal.”
Chaitanya’s recent project
Currently, Chaitanya has not announced any upcoming projects. His latest film, Thandel, directed by Chandoo Mondeti, was released in theatres on Friday. This marks his third collaboration with Chandoo, following Premam and Savyasachi. It is also his second project with Sai Pallavi, who co-stars with him in Thandel after their work together in Sekhar Kammula’s Love Story. According to the producers, Thandel has become his highest opener, grossing Rs 21 crore worldwide.
