Telugu cinema’s renowned and one of the most celebrated actor Nandamuri Balakrishna is grabbing headlines but for all the wrong reasons. In his interview to a Telugu channel, Balakrishna’s unsavory remarks on AR Rahman and Bharat Ratna has invited the wrath of the netizens.
In the same interview, Balakrishna went on to compare Bharat Ratna with ‘toenail’ of his father, late actor-politician NT Rama Rao. Needless to say the Akhanda actor’s remark have stirred a row with Rahman’s fans bashing the senior actor for his uncalled for comments.
In a viral clip from Balakrishna’s interview with TV9, he is heard saying, “I don’t know who is Rahman. I don’t care. Once in a decade, he gives a hit and gets an Oscar award.”
The veteran actor then went on to compare India’s highest civilian award, Bharat Ratna to his late father’s toenail. “All these awards are equal to my foot. No award can compensate for the contribution of my family to Telugu cinema. I feel Bharat Ratna is equal to NTR’s toenail. The awards must feel sad, not my family or my father.”

Fans and followers of the Mozart of Madras wasted no time in slamming the senior actor for his remark on AR Rahman. One of the users slamming Balakrishna wrote, “How can a senior actor like #Balakrishna talk about Indian legend #ARRahman? Will people accept if a similar thing is being spoken by a Tamil actor on #Rajamouli?(sic).” Whereas another fan commented, “Born to spoil is DAD good name.. #whoisbalakrishna this head weight attitude is the biggest reason for people to hate him.. funniest part is he is MLA(sic).”

Notably, AR Rahman has composed the music of Nippu Ravva (1993) that featured Balakrishna. The senior actor recently celebrated his 61st birthday. On the work front, Balakrishna will be next seen in filmmaker Boyapati Srinu’s Akhanda.
