Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan land in legal trouble after they welcome twins via surrogacy

Actor Nayanthara and her director husband Vignesh Shivan took everyone by surprise when they announced the arrival of the twins on Instagram. Since their announcement, fans started speculating if the couple opted for the surrogacy route. Though the couple didn’t release any official statement regarding their kids, it is also reported that Nayanthara and Vignesh welcomed their kids via surrogacy. However, this happy news landed them in legal trouble.

According to the reports, Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan who married in June this year are in a legal mess as they have possibly violated the surrogacy guidelines. Reacting to this, Tamil Nadu health minister Ma Subramanian recently said that the state government would seek an explanation from the couple in the matter.

During a press conference on Monday, the questions were posed to Tamil Nadu Health Minister who said that an inquiry will be conducted. “The surrogacy itself is subjected to a lot of debates. But the law allows individuals to involve in surrogacy if they are above 21 years and below 36 years of age, with the approval of the family,” said the minister.

For the unversed, Commercial surrogacy is prohibited in India, with effect from January 25, 2022. Only altruistic surrogacy is permissible under the 2021 Act. In an altruistic surrogacy, the surrogate mother does not receive monetary compensation.

Moreover, Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan also welcomed their third child AbRam in 2013 via surrogacy. Filmmaker Karan Johar also opted for surrogacy and welcomed twins – Yash and Roohi in 2017. The recent star to embrace parenthood via surrogacy was Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas who welcomed a daughter in 2022.

Sharing the baby’s arrival news on social media, Vignesh wrote, “Nayan & Me have become Amma & Appa We are blessed with Twin Baby Boys All Our prayers, our ancestors’ blessings combined wit all the good manifestations made, have come 2gethr in the form Of 2 blessed babies for us Need all ur blessings for our Uyir & Ulagam Life looks brighter & more beautiful God is double great.”
