Odiyan fame director VA Shrikumar Menon has been arrested by the Alappuzha South police in a financial fraud case. He has allegedly cheated a business group of Rs 5 crore, Alappuzha police officials said on Friday as per a report in PTI. The Malayalam filmmaker was taken into custody from his house in northern Palakkad district on Thursday night as per the officials. He was arrested after the district court rejected an anticipatory bail. He allegedly took the amount from the group on the pretext of producing a movie.
Alappuzha deputy superintendent of police, D K Prithewiraj, told the news agency that the filmmaker was booked under Section 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of the property) of the IPC.
Shrikumar Menon made his debut as a director with Malayalam film Odiyan that starred Mohanlal and Manju Warrier. The film released in theatres in 2018 but failed at the box office.
For the unversed, in 2019, actress Manju Warrier had filed a complaint against Shrikumar for allegedly intimidating and defaming the actress through organized social media campaigns. She had filed the complaint at the Thrissur East Police station. He was booked under sections of the Indian Penal Code: 354 D for stalking and section 509 for intending to insult the modesty of any woman, under section 120 (O) of Kerala Police Act for defaming a woman on social media. Later he was released on bail. Also, in 2018, he had some problems with legendary writer and Jnanpith awardee M.T.Vasudevan Nair over a script.
