Ponniyin Selvan 2: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan makes a royal appearance in teaser as makers announce release date

As promised by the makers, the major update on Ponniyin Selvan 2 has been announced. Lyca Productions unveiled the release date of the upcoming sequel along with a teaser. PS-2 will release in theatres on April 28, 2023. The movie stars Chiyaan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Jayam Ravi and Trisha in pivotal roles.

PS-2 teaser gives a glimpse of Aditya Karikalan (Vikram), Arulmozhi Varman (Jayam Ravi), Vandhiyathevan (Karthi) and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Karikalan is seen sitting in front of a Kali statue, while Arulmozhi is seen walking amidst many monks. Vandhiyathevan is seen with wounds sitting amidst the forest. Aishwarya’s character makes a royal appearance as she looks in the mirror holding a sword. The tagline in the video read: “The Cholas are back”.

The makers captioned the teaser, “Let’s get those swords in the air as we await the 28th of April 2023!”

For those who haven’t watched Ponniyin Selvan 1 yet, the film ended with a cliffhanger, where it was shown Arulmozhi Varman and Vandhiyathevan getting drowned in the sea after their face-off with Pandiyas. In the last shot of the first part, the glimpses of Mandakini Devi aka Oomai Rani was also revealed that created excitement among the moviegoers. It is played by Aishwarya Rai.

The sequel will show how Arulmozhi and Vandhiyathevan are saved, and also the truth behind Nandini’s (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) origin will be revealed.

Ponniyin Selvan is a historical drama that is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s 1955 novel by the same name. It is produced under the banners, Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions. Music is given by AR Rahman. Directed by Mani Ratnam, the magnum opus also features Prakash Raj, Vikram Prabhu, Sobhita Dhulipala, Aishwarya Lekshmi and several in supporting roles.
