Versatile actress Priyanka Chopra recently lost her maternal grandmother Madhu Jyotsana Akhauri, leaving her heartbroken. The beauty who was back in the country for a short break had tweeted a picture of her Nani’s funeral taking place in a church in Kerela. The Mary Kom actress had captioned the picture as “Rest in peace Nani . #Kerala #FinallyBackHome”.
But sadly it did not happen as the church authorities have refused to bury PeeCee’s nani at the Kumarakom Parish. The reason they gave for the refusal was that as PC’s grandmom had married a Hindu she was disowned by the church.
Sources said, “Authorities at the Kumarakom Parish refused to let the burial take place. They stated that it was against the rules as PC’s grand-mom had married a Hindu. One is automatically disowned by the church under such circumstances. She could have re-joined the church while alive. But once a person is dead, They cannot accept the body for burial.” Thereafter, the funeral was carried out at St Thomas Jacobite Church in Ponkunnam.
Priyanka Chopra’s Nani was a Christian born as Mary John in St John’s Attamangalam parish in Kumarakom and had expressed a wish to be buried at the same church.
