Soorarai Pottru: Suriya starrer Sudha Kongara directorial enters Oscars race in Best Actor and Best Film categories

Suriya starrer Soorarai Pottru has joined the Oscars in the eligibility list of Best Actor and Best Film. The makers announced on their Twitter handle. It is directed by Sudha Kongara. Apart from Suriya, the movie also stars Aparna Balamurali. Sharing the great news, the makers wrote that they are ‘elated and thrilled’. Their tweet read: “We are elated and thrilled!!! #SooraraiPottru joins OSCARS!!!”.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences revealed that the 366 feature films are eligible for consideration at the 93rd Oscars. Soorarai Pottru was competing in the race for Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Original Score and other categories in the Academy Awards 2021.

Academy voting will start from March 5 to March 10 and nominations will be announced on March 15. Soorarai Pottru is based on the biography of Capt Gopinath, founder of the low-cost airline, Air Deccan. It released directly on Amazon Prime Video on November 12, 2020, and received positive reviews from the critics and audiences as well.

The movie also stars Mohan Babu, Paresh Rawal, Krishnakumar, Vivek Prasanna and Karunas in pivotal roles apart from Suriya and Aparna Balamurali. It has been co-produced by Suriya and Guneet Monga, and GV Prakash has composed the music for the film.

Suriya recently tested Covid-10 positive and later recovered. He will soon join the sets of Pandiraj’s directorial. He also has a film with Vetrimaaran.
