Suriya starrer Jai Bhim released in November last year on Amazon Prime Video. Since its release, the highly- acclaimed has been landing into controversies. It has landed in soup yet again as a case has been registered against the courtroom drama. Reportedly, the Chennai Police has recently registered an FIR against the film’s director TJ Gnanavel and producers Jyothika and Suriya for allegedly stealing the film’s story.
Reports claim that a complaint was filed by a man named V Kulanjiyappan under the Copyright Act on whom the main character in the film is allegedly based. The plaintiff has claimed that the Jai Bhim makers used his story without providing the promised compensation for using his story. According to a report on DT Next, a case under Sec.63 (a) of the Copyright Act has been filed by Sastri Nagar police station (Chennai) against the director and the production house.
For the unversed, earlier, post the release of Jai Bhim, a complaint was filed by a Vanniyar group called Rudra Vanniyar Sena. They claimed that in a scene the makers have shown a calendar with the ‘Agni Gundam’ (raging fire) symbol. It apparently represents the community and the political organisations associated with the community. Vanniyar Sangam issued a legal notice to Suriya, TJ Gnanavel and Amazon India seeking an apology. They asked to remove the objectionable scenes and they were even removed. The community even demanded to ban the film and Rs. 5 crore compensation was demanded within seven days. Gnanavel even also apologized on the same.
