Thalapathy Vijay stepped into his political role at a rally on Sunday, delivering an impactful speech that made headlines, the actor-turned-political leader officially announced his decision to leave the Tamil film industry to fully devote himself to politics. There had been speculation about his intention to wrap up his film career soon. During the inaugural TVK Vijay Maanadu event, Vijay confirmed his commitment to pursue a political path.

Thalapathy Vijay steps down from Tamil film industry for politics

Notably, the actor charged a whopping Rs 275 crore for his last film, Thalapathy 69. It is also touted to be the biggest film of his career. Thalapathy Vijay recently stepped down from the Tamil film industry to pursue politics. “I have discarded the peak of my career and let go of my salary. I stand before you as your Vijay, with faith in all of you, ” the Tamil superstar declared to a large gathering in Tamil Nadu.

Vijay also reflected on the criticism he faced when starting in the Tamil film industry. “When I began my cinematic journey, I was told my looks were not appealing, that I lacked charisma, and that even my hair and walk were unacceptable. I was shamed for those things,” he recalled. Nevertheless, he emphasized that such negativity did not deter him. He was motivated to work hard and prove his critics wrong.

Vijay’s career journey

With over thirty years in the industry, Vijay’s journey began as a child artist. He worked in films like Vetri, Kudumbam, Vasantha Raagam, and Sattam Oru Vilayaattu. Vijay made his lead debut in 1992 with Naalaiya Theerpu. He has since starred in 68 films, including Nenjinile, Minsara Kanna, Ghilli, Sivakasi, Pokkiri, Azhagiya Tamil Magan, and Kuruvi. His most recent film was G.O.A.T.
