The 2008 college romance ‘Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na’ produced by Aamir Khan and directed by Abbas Tyrewala saw Aamir’s nephew Imran Khan debut on the big screen. But do you know that the leading actress’ role played by Genelia D’Souza was originally offered to the ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama’ lady Nushrat Bharucha? Yes, you heard that right.
Nushrat Bharucha was the original choice for the role of Aditi that fell into Genelia’s lap and gave a boost to her Bollywood career. Nushrat revealed about the same to an entertainment daily:
“Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na’ was the first film that I auditioned for. Imran was being launched with that film and I have actually shot scenes. I had reached that final level. They were like, acchha she’s okay and we’re going to cast her. Half the production team was very sure of me but there was just one person who saw it differently. It happened to be the director, Abbas Tyrewala. So things didn’t fall into place. But I still remember being happy about the fact that people were liking my work enough to consider me for the lead roles.”
Well, we quite can’t imagine how Nushrat would have suited the role of the ‘Junglee Billi’ Aditi, because Genelia just seemed the apt choice for the role considering her bubbly image off screen.
