Udta Punjab may not see the light of the day - Here's the reason!!

‘Udta Punjab’ which is expected to release next month, may not see light of day! The film has been embroiled in controversies right from the onset and has been trying really hard at getting clearance from the Censor Board with minimal cuts.

Even though the casting and the music has already generated a buzz among the audiences, the excessive swearing and drug consumption is creating hurdles for the makers at the Censor Board.

According to reports, the makers have no problems with an A-certification but are not ready to do away with the required cuts in the movie, because that will reduce the movie to a mere 25 minutes! The core theme of the movie is about the drug menace in Punjab and it would not make any sense for the makers, if the movie is cleared after excessive amount of cuts.

As per reports, the CBFC is refusing to comment when asked if the certification process had anything to do with drug abuse. Director Anurag Kashyap, who is one of the producers of the film, has reportedly decided to approach the ministry of information and broadcasting for a resolution.

The director Abhishek Chaubey, producers Vikas Bahl of Phantom Films and Aman Gill of Balaji Motion Pictures  have directly approached the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT) to reach a consensus.

Let’s all keep our fingers crossed and hope that the film is released on the said date, June 17, 2016 without any hurdles.
