In a piece of shocking news, Tamil actress Uma Maheswari, who is best known for her role in Metti Oli, passed away yesterday i.e. October 17 in Chennai. Sun channel that aired the show Metti Oli also confirmed the news on their official Twitter account. As per reports, Maheswari died after a prolonged illness. According to reports, she was diagnosed with Jaundice a few months ago. However, she got recovered post-treatment. Recently, she got affected by Jaundice yet again and was under treatment for quite some time.

Uma’s fans and co-stars Gayathri Shastry, Ammu Ramachandran and Revathy Gnanamurugan among others have been taking to social media to pay their condolences to her family. Gayathri Shastry wrote, “With a very heavy heart I wish to inform that M Uma Maheswari has left us to grieve and moved forward to her heavenly abode.I pray she finds her peace there. I will miss you with all my heart Uma. Om Shanthi.M Uma Maheswari. 3f1,baashyaam Happy windows, Kattupakkam, Chennai (sic)”

Sharing the late actress’ photo, Ammu Ramachandran wrote, “Gone so soon. Devastated hearing the sudden demise of Umacan’t believe that she is not with us now, we are going to miss u & ur smile Uma (sic)”. Revathy Gnanamurugan wrote, “With a very heavy heart I wish to inform that M Uma Maheswari has left us to grieve and moved forward to her heavenly abode. I pray she finds her peace there. Miss u my dear…Om Shanthi. (sic)”



She is survived by her hubby Murugan, a veterinary doctor. Uma Maheswari got married to Murugan, a few years ago and left acting post marriage. She became a household name post her role as Viji in the show Metti Oli. Thiru Murugan was the one who directed the show and also acted in it along with Uma, Revathy Gnanamurugan, Gayathri Shastry, Delhi Ganesh and several others. The show ran successfully for 800 plus episodes and was re-run recently.

Aside from this show, she was also known for her performances in other shows like Manjal Magimai and Oru Kadhaiyin Kadhai. She also acted in many Tamil and Malayalam movies including Vetri Kodi Kattu (2000), Ee Bhargavi Nilayam, Alli Arjuna (2002) and Unnai Ninaithu'(2002).

This year several Tamil actors and celebs including Pandu, Pulamaipithan, V Kalidass, Ananda Kannan, Venkat Subha and Maran left for heavenly abode.
