Yash starrer Toxic in trouble? Makers issued notice for illegal trees felling on forest land

Yash starrer Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-ups is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated films of 2025. While the Geetu Mohandas directorial made the headlines a couple of days ago when the makers released a special surprise for fans on the actor’s birthday, it is not making the news for a not so good reason. As per reports pouring in, the makers have received a notice over environmental violations. Read on for details.

Yash’s Toxic in trouble for illegal trees?

As reported by DNA, the makers of TOXIC have been issued show-notice for allegedly illegal cutting of hundreds of trees on forestland with the Hindustan Machine Tools (HMT) premises in Peenya, Bengaluru. Karnataka Forest Minister Eshwar B Khandre confirmed that the notice has been served to the filmmakers.

The minister claimed that the officials had (falsely) claimed, in an Interlocutory Application (IA) filed in the Supreme Court in 2020, that the forest land in HMT possession had lost its forest status. He also alleged that they sought denotification approval without obtaining Cabinet permission. To address this, Khandre proposed withdrawing the Interlocutory Application (IA), and the Cabinet has already given its ex-post facto approval to do so. Now, the next step will be taken after reviewing the filmmakers’ responses.

In October 2024, Khandre had ordered Forest Department officials to take immediate legal action against all those responsible for the tree-cutting after a site visit. He stated that this was a serious violation given that hundreds of trees were removed without permission. He noted that strict legal repercussions is needed.

About the film

Jointly produced by Venkat K. Narayana and Yash under KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations, Toxic is directed by Geetu Mohandas. The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, and Huma Qureshi. The action-packed thriller is expected to hit theatres in December 2025.

Set against the backdrop of Goa, Toxic delves into a gripping narrative that exposes the dark underbelly of a powerful drug cartel. The first teaser of the film has already created a stir, showcasing Yash in a bold and unconventional avatar.
