Adarsh Gourav, Superboys of Malegaon

The much-anticipated Indian film Superboys of Malegaon. Directed by Reema Kagti, will open the National Indian Film Festival of Australia (NIFFA) 2025. Inspired by a true story, the film follows Nasir Shaikh. An amateur filmmaker from Malegaon, Maharashtra, who dreams of making movies. With his friends, he transforms his small town into a vibrant hub of filmmaking, driven by passion and creativity. Their journey showcases resilience, determination, and the power of storytelling in a place with limited resources. Through this inspiring tale, the film captures the spirit of independent cinema and the love for filmmaking in unexpected places.

About the film festival

The pioneering first-of-its-kind festival will run from February 13 to March 2. With support from key Indian institutions and major Australian entities like Dendy Cinemas. The Indian support includes the Indian High Commission in Australia, consulates of Sydney, Brisbane, and Perth. The National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), SBS (Special Broadcasting Service – Australia), and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). It features an impressive lineup of over 35 world and Australian premieres of Indian films in 16 languages. With 7 red carpets in seven cities of the opening night film Superboys of Malegaon. A first of its kind in Australia.

Australia’s first and only annual national Indian film festival, NIFFA 2025, celebrates the diversity of Indian cinema beyond Bollywood. With screenings in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Perth, Adelaide, and Canberra, the festival will feature a lineup of handpicked films from submissions from around the world. The all-female nomination council, comprising prominent Australian Indian film professionals, will play a key role in shaping the festival’s vision.

NIFFA will host screenings in seven cities—Sydney, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, and Canberra—featuring over 40 films, including three world premieres and 36 Australian premieres.

Slated to release theatrically on February 28, An Excel Entertainment and Tiger Baby production, Superboys of Malegaon is produced by Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar, Zoya Akhtar, and Reema Kagti. The movie is directed by Reema Kagti and written by Varun Grover. . It features a highly talented ensemble cast, including Adarsh Gourav, Shashank Arora, Vineet Kumar Singh, Anuj Singh Duhan, Saqib Ayub, Pallav Singh, Manjiri Pupala, Muskkaan Jaferi and Riddhi Kumar.
