Former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique no more. Siddique – who joined the Ajit Pawar faction of the NCP (Nationalist Congress Party) earlier this year, was shot at in Mumbai’s Bandra East earlier today, Saturday, October 12. As per reports, the politician succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical attention at Bandra West’s Lilavati Hospital.
Baba Siddique dies
As reported by NDTV, three bullets were fired at Baba Siddique around 9.30 pm on Saturday outside the office of his son Zeeshan Siddique in Bandra East. Two people have been taken into custody. A police official told PTI, “Two to three rounds were fired. Further probe is underway as teams have rushed to the area.”
As per the report, Baba Siddique was rushed to Bandra’s Liliavati Hospital. Sources in the hospital revealed that at least one of the bullets hit Mr Siddique in the chest. The insider also stated that the now-deceased politician was being given continuous cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) upon arrival at the hospital.
The firing took place months ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly elections. The elections are expected to be held later this year.
About Baba Siddique
Mr Siddique was associated with Congress for 48 years. He was elected as an MLA from the Bandra West constituency in 1999, 2004 and 2009. He also served as a minister of state for food and civil supplies, labour and FDA between 2004 and 2008. The politician quit the party in February and joined Ajit Pawar’s NCP.
The former MLA – who was known for also hosting lavish parties, was responsible for ending the cold war between superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan. He resolved the fight between the two superstars at his Iftaar party hosted in 2013.
