Nakul Roshan Sahdev on International Men’s Day

Nakul urged the makers to try and present male characters as more human. He said, “The entertainment industry plays quite a pivotal role in shaping role models. How masculinity is showcased through characters has a huge impact on our youth. Being masculine is just not about aggression or big biceps. But how dutiful you are as a human being. We need more responsible and mentally tough characters. I feel being a real man is to have a mentally tough attitude towards life and standing tall towards responsibilities.”

Nakul on misconception about men in industry

The Gully Boy fame further stated that the biggest misconception about men in the industry is that they don’t show emotions. He also admitted that even he has faced pressure to conform to traditional masculine expectations when he was in school. “In high school, I felt pressure to hide my emotions because I was told it wasn’t “manly” to show vulnerability. At first, I tried to fit in and bottle up my feelings, but eventually, I realized it was more important to be true to myself than to follow those traditional expectations,” he said.

Nakul concluded by saying that we need to present the emotional sides of men too on our screens. “We need to see tougher men who are well aware of their emotions. Men need to grind hard, sweat a lot, have a gruelling work ethic, and take responsibility for their loved ones. But above all being aligned with their purpose,” he said.
