Vahbiz Dorabjee feels leaping from television to the web or films is a ‘challenge’; says, “It’s still a barrier”

Vahbiz Dorabjee, known for her compelling performances in shows such as ‘Bahu Hamari Rajnikant’ and ‘Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani,’ is poised to make a highly anticipated comeback to television screens with Star Plus’s upcoming show ‘Deewaniyat’. Vahbiz opens up on the challenges actors face coming from television and how the lines are slowly blurring between the different entertainment mediums.

About whether leaping from television to the web or films is still a challenge, Vahbiz says, “It is definitely still a barrier. Many people say that you need to take a long break between TV and web projects to increase your chances of getting cast, but for some reason, casting directors aren’t very keen on choosing TV actors. It’s definitely a challenge, I must say.”

Vahbiz also responds to the idea of actors from television not making it into new mediums despite high popularity. She says, “Now, a lot of TV actors have made it in web series and films, so I don’t think that belief holds true anymore. These days, popularity can come from any medium—whether it’s social media, web shows, or TV. I believe it’s not about the medium; it’s about the quality of work and how much the audience connects with you.“

While such challenges remain for actors, Vahbiz Dorabjee is confident that changes are happening and actors require a lot of patience for the process of entering a new medium. “Well, as I said, it’s slow progress, but it’s happening. Many of our actors, including several of my co-actors, have now transitioned to films and are taking on prominent roles in web shows. In our industry, patience is key—simple as that. You just have to hang in there. Many actors have taken a break and, after that break, they’ve successfully moved into web and films.”

With a career that has seen her in a variety of roles, Vahbiz has established herself as a talented and versatile actress, capturing audiences with her engaging portrayals and dynamic presence.
