Abhishek Banerjee played the role of Vishal Tyagi (Hathoda Tyagi) in the web series Paatal Lok. He had given quiet and applaud worthy performance and he was much appreciated for it. It was not your usual character, Tyagi managed to send chills down your spine in all the freakish ways. In an interview with ETimes, Abhishek recalled being a part of that show as Paatal Lok clocks one year.
Abhishek told that portal that he believes his life changed a lot after Paatal Lok as everyone assumed that he was a quirky comic actor but post the show, everyone took notice of his acting skills in an intense role, “Some were surprised that I could pull off a Hathoda Tyagi because very few know that I had already performed a much darker part in ‘Ajji’, which is an indie available on Netflix. I always thought that drama is my forte but because the comic roles I did became box office hits, everyone started eyeing me like that. I was getting a little scared of being typecasted in similar roles because that’s the kind of offers I was receiving.”
Banerjee also said that the tragedy of Tyagi hit him hard, “I was not able to make peace with the fact that one of us in the society has to go through so much oppression just because of the caste he or she is born into.” It hurt him ‘deeply’ to emotionally accept Tyagi.

Further talking about working with Anushka, Abhishek said, “Anushka Sharma is an extraordinary human being. She has the courage to back out-of-the-box projects and give it her full support. I didn’t meet her on the sets of ‘Paatal Lok’; she probably came to the shoot the day I was not shooting. Her involvement is of a producer who gives full freedom to the creators! Once she is convinced about the content, she and her brother Karnesh Sharma give full support to the creative team.”
