EXCLUSIVE: Aarya actor Ankur Bhatia talks about working with Sushmita Sen and the series bagging an Emmy Award nomination

Sushmita Sen, Ankur Bhatia, Sikandar Kher starrer web series Aarya was nominated for the International Emmy Awards 2021. Sushmita Sen was over the moon as she took to her social media account and shared her excitement with the fans. She also thanked the whole team for making and being part of a show like Aarya. Meanwhile, we sat down for a candid chat with Aarya actor Akur Bhatia who is seen playing the character of Sangram, Aarya’s brother, and Tej’s business-partner. Ankur opened up about the international door opener up to Indian content. He also talked about his equation with Sushmita and how it was like working with the actress.

Aarya is nominated for the Emmys. A huge congratulations. Do you feel an international nomination only makes us drive to do better? How do you see this?

Thank You! It’s just amazing! Aarya is a tremendously special series and I am so happy it is getting recognised by one of the most prestigious awards in Hollywood. All thanks to the magic of our director Mr Ram Madhvani, Sandeep Modi and Vinod Rawat. Yes of course, an international nomination makes us drive to do better, it also means that our content has been seen and appreciated internationally and it does push us a notch higher, as content from our country is being recognised worldwide. I think our cinema is evolving and so is our audience, with the access to international content easily at every household, artists and creators are thriving to create world-class content and I think that is what is driving us to do better.

Aarya 2 is coming and there is so much anticipation around it. What are your expectations from it?

I can’t contain my excitement but I am also a tad bit nervous. I had no expectations while I was shooting season 1, but when it came out, it became a huge success, and I got so much love and appreciation for my role of Sangram. My expectations are simple, we have done our bit, put our heart and soul in it, I’m sure that people will love it. I just can’t wait for it to come out already!

Your bond with Sushmita Sen?

Sushmita Sen is family. She has been an amazing co-star. I remember each and every day that I have shot with her in season 1 and in season 2, every bit, every moment of it, that’s how amazing she is. I have never seen someone so giving, so grounded, so loving and so right. She is a true WONDER WOMAN! More Power to Her.

Favourite memory from shooting for Aarya?

My favourite memory of Aarya is celebrating my birthday along with the entire cast and crew of Aarya this year. I was miles away from home for the shoot, and they surprised me and it made me feel very special and loved by my Aarya family.

Meanwhile, apart from Aarya, Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer Serious Men and For India comedian Vir Das has bagged an International Emmy Awards 2021 nomination making India hold three spaces on the list.
