Actor Urvashi Dholakia remains widely recognized for her portrayal of Komolika in Ekta Kapoor’s hit TV show Kasautii Zindagii Kayy, which premiered in 2001. Even after so many years, the impact of her character continues to resonate. In a recent interview with Hauterrfly, Urvashi reminisced about her first meeting with producer Ekta Kapoor and how she landed the iconic role.

Ekta Kapoor knew Komolika would be the next sex bomb

Recalling the moment, Urvashi shared that as soon as she entered Ekta Kapoor’s office, the producer immediately exclaimed, ‘Komolika!’ The actor admitted that she was initially confused and asked who Komolika was. Ekta responded, “That’s your name for your next character… You won’t believe it, she said, ‘You are going to be the next big sex bomb on TV!’” Urvashi was taken aback by this statement. “I gave her a blank stare because I could not understand. I did a look test for the part and I remember I was parading the entire Balaji office. So,I was thinking, what was she expecting out of me?” she recalled.

Urvashi further discussed how her character evolved into a cultural phenomenon. “Now the character must have become a rage but back then people were dissing me with things like she is too OTT, look at her eye makeup! Today, every celebrity, and every actor is doing it. That is not OTT? People loved to hate me. I suddenly became so popular with the kids.”

The show Kasautii Zindagii Kayy aired from October 29, 2001, to February 28, 2008, and starred Shweta Tiwari, Cezzane Khan, and Ronit Roy. It gained massive popularity among viewers, with Komolika becoming one of the most memorable antagonists in Indian television history.

Beyond her success with Kasautii Zindagii Kayy, Urvashi went on to participate in Bigg Boss 6, where she emerged as the winner of the season. Her portrayal of Komolika set a benchmark for negative characters on Indian TV, and even years later, she remains synonymous with the role.
