EXCLUSIVE: Gurmeet Choudhary REVEALS when he started dating Debina Bonnerjee, and it wasn’t during Ramayana

Actors Gurmeet Choudhary and Debina Bonnerjee are one of the most adorable couples in the television industry. The two actors rose to fame when they played the lead characters of Ram and Sita in the 2008 daily soap, Ramayana. Many assume that Debina and Gurmeet’s love story began on the sets of the popular mythological drama. But fans may be surprised to know that the duo knew each other much before they entered the world of television.

In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Bubble host Akash Bhatnagar Gurmeet Choudhary opened up on how he met Debina during a talent contest and became best friends, the friendship soon turned to love and ended with the couple tying the knot.

Speaking to us Gurmeet opened up on his and Debina’s love story. He said, “Our love story began when we were 19 year old. I reached Mumbai and Debina too reached Mumbai from Kolkata.  We were taking part in a talent contest in Mumbai in 2006. There were around 15 girls selected from India and one of the girls from them was Debina and we were friends just friends. One day I saw Debina in the hotel where we were staying for the duration. I sat down beside her and joked,  “I will talk to my father as I want to marry a girl like you.” All this was said in jest but the words came true later. It was from here that we bonded and Debina also felt this boy is cute also has a good sense of humour and is hardworking too.”

“Our friendship grew and later we started dating each other. It was while we were dating that both of us were selected for Ramayana. I was selected to play Ram and I convinced Debina to give audition for Sita. She too was selected and the producer had no idea we were dating in real life. Many people still think that we fell in love during the shoot of Ramayana,” he added.

Gurmeet and Debina got married in a private ceremony in 2011. The couple welcomed their daughter in April and the couple is all set to embrace parenthood once again.
