EXCLUSIVE: Surbhi Chandna says ‘I will have to refuse things that don’t add to my career graph’

Surbhi Chandna started off in showbiz with a small stint on the show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. Things have only moved upwards for her since then. Not following any linear line, Surbhi dabbled with a number of exciting things as she weaved her graph playing Anika in Ishqbaaz followed by Ishani in Sanjeevani and Bani in Naagin 5. After Naagin 5, Surbhi made her music video debut with Bepannah, but has admittedly taken a sabbatical from work as she wants to do things that are ‘exciting enough for her.’ She also reiterated that while she is thankful for her fans for their constant support, she hopes they can be a little more patient as “bigger things take time.”

Surbhi Chandna entered the Bigg Boss 15 house as a challenger this week. Alongside Munmun Dutta, Vishal Singh and Aakansha Singh, Surbhi entered to “shake and wake up the contestants.” Chatting with Bollywood Bubble, she said, “I feel it was about time that there was some challenge thrown. They should have taken the show seriously and I feel this was the right time to shake them and wake them up from their slumber. The challenges we took were such that couldn’t have disqualified it or not taken it seriously.”

Has this also convinced her to possibly give Bigg Boss a shot herself? “I don’t think it will happen anytime soon,” she adds in a dramatic tone while admitting, “But, it was a great experience as a guest. By the end of shooting this, I was very pleased with all that we did inside.”

She also revealed that she was reminded of her stint in Taarak after meeting Munmun during their brief interact on Bigg Boss set. “I met Munmun after long years after my brief stint in Taarak, so it was nostalgic. We were reminiscing where I started from and what I am doing now. I relived the journey.”

Surbhi also shared that she doesn’t have any favourite this season of Bigg Boss as she feels something is lacking, as a viewer.

Sabbatical and work:

When asked if fans will hear on her next project anytime soon, Surbhi candidly answered, “What happens is I am selfish, I have a career graph which I don’t want to remain stagnant. I want it to only rise. When that is the case, I don’t want to settle for anything I am not happy or excited about. I have been like that and I have been vocal about it. I am not going to deny that work has come my way, they were good things, but they were not exciting enough for me. I know fans are waiting desperately but I also feel that one should aim big and not settle.”

So, what excites her as an artist today? Surbhi said, “There is a lot of great work happening on web. When I did things on TV, in my first show itself, I possibly played all kinds of characters. Then I did Sanjeevani which was not a daily soap kind. Then with Naagin, I had to unlearn so many things to learn to be a Balaji girl. It was again a world I had not explored. What is left on TV for me is something I haven’t been able to do so. I see that happening on web though. I happen to catch up on work by others especially on web. I hope I am able to click something on a big platform.”

She prompted that while the wait can be difficult, she takes cue from actors who have done it in the past. She also shares that after having realised her potential, it would be a disservice to self is she settles for anything less. “When I go back to reading about Mrunal how she had to wait, it can be difficult but not not-achievable. I feel whoever loves you will stay with you, irrespective. If I am keeping this patience despite all the buzz, then I feel the fans should just believe in my vision. Sometimes, I do get put off when a section of my fans who are in a hurry for my return. I know they mean the best for me but I want them to have patience. Do you think letting go of good work in their sense is easy? It is not but I am learning it because big things take time. I saw myself, I realise and keep realising my potential. In a short time, I have tried to do and experiment and I will have to refuse thing which will possibly not add to my graph.”
