EXCLUSIVE: Kamya Panjabi on dealing with people’s judgement: Wo log meri beti ki fees nahi bhar rahe

Kamya Panjabi is known for her bold and fierce avatar, be it in her characters or in real life. The actress has always stood by her opinions and even during tough times, she has never shied away from being vocal. But that attitude has invited a lot of judgements from people too.

Kamya stars in Colors TV’s new show Neerja Ek Nayi Pehchaan, and recently she got in an exclusive chat with Bollywood Bubble. During the chat, she opened up on how the judgements used to affect her, and now why they don’t.

The actress has gone through many tough times in her life. Be it her divorce, having to be a single mother to her daughter or having a second marriage, Kamya Panjabi has dealt with judgements all through her career. But she has never bowed down to them.

When asked if they ever pulled her down, the actress said, “Pehle hota tha. Pehle bahut hota tha, main affect hoti thi. Kisine bakwas tweet kar diya, kisine kuch bol diya to pehle hota tha. Par ab, main bilkul Dhidun ban chuki hun. Mujhe koi farak nahi padta. (It used to affect me earlier. If someone wrote a bad tweet or someone said something. But now I have become Dhidun (from Neerja). It doesn’t affect me.)”

On her attitude towards criticism and trolls…

Explaining further, Kamya added, “I have become so strong ki ab ye lagta hai ki, ‘acha, kisine ye likha, likhne do’. Kyunki wo log aake meri beti ki fees nahi bhar rahe hain. Wo log aake mere bills nahi bhar rahe hain, mera ghar nahi chala rahe hain. Wo log meri takleef mein mere saath nahi the, to wo bol rahe hain bolne do. Mujhe ab farak nahi padta, pehle bahut padta tha. I have crossed that stage now. (I have become so strong that if someone writes about me, I don’t care. It’s because these people are not paying my daughter’s fees, my bills or running my home. They weren’t with me in my difficult times so let them say whatever they want to. I don’t get affected by them, I used to earlier. But I have crossed that stage now.)”

Kamya’s new show Neerja is about people from the red light district near Kolkata, Sonagachi. It focuses on a mother’s struggle to save her daughter from the area’s life. Kamya plays a madame named Dhidun on the show, and she also spoke about meeting people from that area for her prep.
