While the film and the television industry are slowly getting back on their feet post the Covid-19 lockdown, Karan Tacker has his reservations when it comes to resuming work in a full-fledged manner. Having aged parents at home, he intends on ensuring a safe and secure ecosystem at work before beginning his shoots.
Recently, Karan and his father, Kuku Tacker, were offered a commercial for a popular brand. While it was supposed to be shot remotely, the production changed their plans eventually and decided to shoot it for eight hours at a setup in Madh Island. Though thrilled initially, he turned down the offer citing safety reasons. Talking about it, he says, “What primarily made me say no is the concern for my family’s health. My parents fall under the category of people who are most at risk of contracting the Coronavirus. My health is a concern too. Nobody wants to be sick and fall sick.”
He reveals that unless an effective mandate surrounding safety precautions and guidelines come into effect, he would be wary of hitting the ground running. “I’m going to say a no to proper studio shoots until we have a proper mandate that tells us about what is the exact practice that should be followed in terms of Covid-19 security on sets – if it requires proper testing before we go on floors,” he says.
He adds, “What Akshay Kumar did was on a very big scale because of his stature. If we can contain everybody, get them tested, have them in containment for 14 days and then kick-off shoots, that’s one of the only ways how shoots can start. Until then, I would want to be a little careful.”
Karan states that the ball should be set rolling only once the cast and the crew members of a project are not tested for the virus. “We are all quite sensitive and have an understanding of people who live with families. I’ve always lived with my family and that’s the way it is. Producers are also understanding our concerns. I won’t resume work until I don’t figure out a way of where I can isolate myself so that I don’t meet my family after my shoots. I should be able to live separately during the shoot of a project which maybe for a few days, a few weeks or even months,” he signs off.
